Fast 90mm, stock 10bolt with 3.73 gears,t56 and stock bottom end. The car is pretty fun looking for more now a days though.

My preference would be the Texas Speed stage 2.5 LS6 heads for a modest budget, but they cost more of course.

You can buy TSP 5.3 2.5 heads w/o springs for around $1000. You can always upgrade springs later.

I second the TSP heads , good head for the money. With good tuning and a decent size cam, you can make 450rwhp +

Starting to sound like the 5.3s are better than the 243s...

I would not say the 5.3's are better than 243's..Its all about the package and the desired performance you are trying to achieve from your car. You can see great examples of power made from both sets of heads. My suggestion to you is do a little more research, and make a more informed decision for you. Trust me I have maid some hasty decisions that had I thought them thru, I would be closer to the finish line with my car then what I am. Double buying parts is for the birds. For my money I would probably do a used set of 243s ported by AI/TEA or TSP. Good luck!!

Yeah, that's what I would rather too but the TSP stage 2.5 5.3 heads are about $1300 vs. roughly $1600-$2000 for 243s ported by AI and they're gonna make similar power. Also heard that for an ls1 the 5.3 are a little better because of the smaller runners and smaller combustion chambers

the power is in your heads.. Save your money, maybe you can get a paper route and save up and buy some good heads like AFR or TRICKFLOW. The wait is worth it. You will gain more power and have a better product. I have had two sets of sponsor/cnc factory ported heads,a set of trick flow and a set of afr. they kill the factory porteds.
