lq4 build help I am in the middle of a build and im in need of some help!.. i have a freshly rebuilt stock lq4 short block, ARP rod bolts and head studs, a set of 5.3 heads with 2.05 1.60 valves and 58cc. .650 lift springs, ls6 intake(for now)... im looking for a camshaft thats gonna work best all around.. it will be in a street/track car. i want something with a good powerband, not really wanting to turn more than 6500 rpms. i dont want to have to fly cut if i can get a cam like im looking for without it, its going into a 240sx with 4l60e 3600 stall, and 4.08 gear.. not worried about dyno number...just track numbers!! anyone have any suggestions on what will work best? thanks

I was in your shoes and I pm'd Texas speed and Pat G and noth were extremely helpful in helping me pick a cam. Also search and see if you can find people with similar setups and see what they are running

If your 5.3 heads have not had CNC porting then I think they will be restricting your power levels. If you know the flow numbers on the heads then I think you would be wise to contact Pat G and get a custom cam. Most people are running some sort of 6.0 head for performace. The 317s are better than the 5.3s and easy to find. The 243s flow about 5% better than the 317s and have a smaller combustion chamber.

i thought the 317 head flowed the same as 243s.. im trying to up the stock CR #s on the lq4 so thats why i went with 5.3 heads and i was wrong about the heads they are about 62cc heads. 2.05 1.60 valves.

The data I have shows the 243 is about 5% better (cfm) but I don't know that it means 5% more power.

ok... im gonna try and find a cam thats gonna run best with my setup... fly cutting is not that big of a issue. and everything i have found says im gonna have to flycut to run these heads so it doesnt really leave alot of options.
