If something ever happened? knock on wood
If something ever happened to my LS1 what would be a good candidate to drop back in its place and still be able to use all the parts I've all ready bought for it. I've got PRC 215s 60cc, MS4, a FAST 102. I've seen some LS1 383 short blocks and I've seen something like a 395 short block. Would my heads and everything cross over to say the 395 since they're cut all ready. Also how much more power would a 395 make over a LS1?

a 395 is still an LS motor just different ci. How much more power it would make is all in how it is built. A 383 is a good choice, I went that route, because I wanted to keep the aluminum block I already had and keep the weight of an iron block off the front of my car. I could have went a 408 as alot of guys do, and have the iron block which can take more stress and load. Its all in what you want to do with the car. But your top end stuff will fit on almost any LS style engine. If you keep your current heads, and dont want to modify them, then you would need to select the correct pistons to attain the compression ratio you want.

I don't want to add weight with a iron block thats why I was looking at the 383 and the 395. I want the most power but I didn't want to have to completely re do everything I've all ready done to the 346 like buy a new set of heads and what not. I figure keeping my same set up with the 395 bottom end would just give me some more low end grunt from the bigger engine and maybe move power down and give me an extra 40 or so on top from the added cubes. If I end up needing a new engine why not go bigger right?
