Default 408 won't start

I recently installed a gen4 408 into my 2002 ws6, I am using the ls1 wiring harness still. I have the correct 24tooth reluctor wheel, but i keep getting a crank position sensor error when I try to start it, I swapped the sensors twice to double check and make sure it wasn't a bad sensor. The tach works for a split second while trying to start it, then does not work again until i clear the crank position sensor code p0335. Can't get it to start, any ideas?

I found that in a quick search and figured it was worth a shot. I would focus on the crank sensor because the car will start without the cam sensor. It may pop and backfire while cranking but it will run.

I had tried something similar to that last night with no luck. Maybe I spaced out the sensor too far?
