Default 6.0 carb'd build...which heads?

Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse, just hard to search from my phone.

I want to do a Carb'd 6.0 with a little nitrous in my fox body mustang.

I haven't bought an engine yet as LQ4's and LY6's are being hard to find in my area. I was hoping to stay with a stock bottom end or even long block and change cams and spray it. Be running a TH350 trans and whatever converter I need to get, car has 410 gears.

What would be my best bet for heads? I found some L92's used with rockers and valve covers for $650. Some stock 317's for $100. I don't know if I should be looking at Patriots or what. I am on a budget, so buying trick flow's or something of that nature is probably out.

Car should weigh around 3100 with driver and goal is high 6's 1/8 mile NA and maybe 6.50's on spray.

Just use the stock 6.0 heads. You can run 6.50s at that weight with spray no problem at all.

Seriously? Will I need to mill them to get the compression up or or port them or are you saying just put a good cam in a stock LQ4 long block?

Seriously. Just stick a big cam and converter in there and go. I bet a cam in the high 230s - low 240s @ .050, A Victor Jr., 750-950 HP holley, a 4000 - 4500 converter and a 150 shot will make that happen no problem.

Of course good heads will go faster, but I don't see you needing them to hit that number at your weight. There is a guy on here with a 55 Chevy going faster than that with less.

Did you have to fly cut pistons on your build?

No, but I have a very small cam (226/234). If you check with some of the sponsors, they can tell you which cams will need a flycut. Zone, the moderator of the carbureted section, ran a sponsor cam called the "trex". It is a large cam and I don't think he flycut. You probably won't even need a cam that big. Check out this thread:

Cam and Converter...that should be the (budget) LSx motto.
I wonder what the best ET and HP numbers are for a Cam & Converter ride??

It is almost unbelievable how easy it is to make power with these motors. Sometimes I wonder if I wasted $800 on my (mild) head mods just to make 500chp. At least they look good (polished ports & chambers).
