Is it Rod knock?
horrible knocking sound coming from what seems to be the clutch/rear of the engine. knock sound happens weather or not the clutch is in or out or if the car is in gear or out of gear. when i pull the #7 coil pack wire the knocking quiets down alot, then when i pulg the #7 coil pack wire in the knocking returns to its horrible loud sound. is this a spun bearing/rod knock?

Happened to me on an astro van. Same., I would take the spark plug wire and would quiet down a lot and when I would put it in it would knock hard. It was a bent push rod. I say check them out before u decide to take the engine out or something.
You can use them again for sure ,,,,,,the main things to look at are the roller 4 pitting or any bad surface grooving and the diameter of the lifter but that is very rare usually the lifter hole in the block and make sure all the springs inside are'nt collapsed/worn out .
I definitely wouldn't chance the old lifters for whatever a new set of ls7s cost
The bearing matter oil was sure to get inside the lifter plungers and will work
its way into your new and expensive engine. Just like an auto trans guy will
tell you when a trans gets smoked and needs rebuilding, you have to cut the
converter open to clean out all the contaminated fluid so you don't pump the
bad stuff into a new trans.

Yeah I spun a rod bearing trying to make a 9 sec pass with my stock bottom end/heads LS1. It sounded horrible. Everybody within a 20 yard radius cringed when I pulled around to the pits. I've bent a pushrod also and the that sounded more like a bad header gasket leak. The spun rod bearing was so much louder. Plus the gold flakes just confirm it was a rod bearing. Looks like somebody wont have a stock bottom end anymore lol. Sorry for the bad luck man, I'm in the same boat.
