Default Cam specs

Thinking about ordering a cam, rods, and a double spring kit for Christmas. I know that to safely put down decent numbers I need springs and hardened rods. I will more than likely be going with the Patriot Gold or Xtreme spring/retainer kit. But I am unsure what rod length and cam specs would be best with the stock 241's.

The car is my daily, but I don't drive much at all. The car sees less than 6k miles a year, but with almost 98k on the ticker. I want something somewhat aggressive, but a slightly on the streetable side as well.

Any info or advice is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks.

Stock length rods will work with stock heads. 7.4 If you want to keep pretty much the same driveability with a nice bump in power something like a 228r would work.

Unless your going to be running a .650 lift cam I would look into PSI single beehive maxlife prepared endurance springs, good to .630 - .640 lift. PSI is very high quality stuff. I regret running the Patriot Xtreme golds .660 lift springs on my last combo. The cams peak lift was .601 on the exhaust side. Could have made more power if I used the correct springs. No need for such high lift springs unless your going to utilize the capabilities of the springs where they are most efficient.

I will definitely check them out. I was looking to throw it up around .595" lift and maybe .235" duration with a 111-lsa(or under). But the difference in max spring lift really can play that much of a difference in horsepower gains?

It won't show like a 10hp gain probably, but there is no point for .660 springs on a .595 cam. Just because the springs are rated to .660 doesn't mean that if you go to .661 they will break. Better valvetrain life and harmonics will result from going with a single beehive vice heavier duals. Just make sure you go with a QUALITY beehive like the PSI etc. I am running them on my car right no issues whatsoever. No valve float.

Sweet, thanks man. Are there any other brands that I should check out, and any to avoid?

PAC makes a decent beehive, I think its called the 1518? I believe PAC makes better beehives than Comp Cams. Not sure what other brands there are with beehives.

Give these guys a call, www.advancedinduction.com You will probably speak with Phil.. you will not regret using Advanced Induction..
