what heads should i get?
I have a 98 ss camaro that i am looking to get a set of aftermarket heads for. I will be drag racing this car and driving it on the street alot. my objective is to get a set of heads that will help me more on the top end of the track and keep low end torque to a minimum for traction purposes. Im not looking to set record et's either but i would like the car to mph good. The car already has a aftermarket cam but i am unsure of the size. i just bought the car and i will know more on the cam size when i pull the motor apart, but it sounds like a big cam. please post and let me know what you would recomend or if you have any other questions to help answer my question. Thank you for your time.
as much power as i can get. as far as tourqe goes i would like to keep the low end tourqe to a minimum for traction reasons. i will also be using a low rpm stall converter to help with that as well. my budget on heads would probably be around 2500 for a pair but i wouldnt mind spending less.
I guess what my plans are is to run in the 12 second range with real slow 60ft times and mph real hard on the big end. for example a local friend of mine has a camaro with a cam and stock converter and headers and he is running in 13.30s at 110. I would like to do somthing similar except i would like to run in the 12s and maybe run around 115mph or more in the 1/4. i am limmited by class rules though so i cant run faster than 12.00

Have you taken it to the track yet? With a cam and converter you should not need aftermarket heads to run 12.0. I have a stock motor and run low 12s. I would take it to the track and see what it does before you spend all that money just to run too fast.
the car does not have a converter. its stock. i will be replacing it with a aftermarket stronger converter though. but similar to stock stall to kill the car off the line so i can run slow ets with high mph. i understand that with just puting a converter in the car i could go well into the 12s easy but that wont help me reach my goal

Yup, you need to know what cam you have or get urself a heads and new cam with converter that matches and other supporting mods if necessary, call one of the sponsors and they'll tell u where u need to be. Matching ur parts is very important.

You don't need heads to do what you want. full boltons,a converter(3,600 or so) and with good tires you should be easy down in the 12's. My boys car with only a catback,lid,3.73's and nittos ran 12.8 in an a4.
As youve read a few times, you don't need heads, just bolt ons... And a cam. But there seems to be a growing trend to go with really nice heads, and stock cams. Look into that too... Been a few posts on it around here lately.
Everybody is gonna tell you TFS or AFR... Very nice products from those companies. But i will be looking at WCCH.. West Coast Cylinder Heads. Surprised how many people sleep on them.
As many others have stated , you dont need much to get into the 12's for that matter 11's are easily attained . the Big Question is why do you want your car to leave the line like a turtle ? Lol ! Thats half the fun and a BIG part of ET ! What i would do and have done in the past with the basic cam only and boltons type car is put a 35-4000 converter in it with sum 3.73's and drag radials . easily run mid upper 11's and have reliable fun !
yep you dont need a cam or heads to run those times unless your in a warmer part of the country. My car in sig ran 12.0s in +500 da. Then did 11.9s in -187 da.
Full exhaust, ssra, lid, ss3600, and tune. Oh and a 180lb weight reduction. Also FWIW the same car did 12.0 in -1000 da when it was still full weight.
