I typically use the higher end Puralator filters, mainly because AC Delco has superseded everything so damn much now they all pull up as the short filter for every LS based engine on the planet. I don't have a part # off hand though, just ask your parts store for an oil filter for a 2001 Silverado 5.3L in a Puralator brand. They make a "Pure One" line that's a pretty good filter.

Yep. Well done. I've done that on a few cars as well, but usually only on cars that will see high rpm for long periods of time.

I wouldn't run that filter if it's the one I'm thinking of...it sticks down below the pan. There is a thread here showing what can happen. It ain't purdy....

Especially true on a lowered 4th gen. I switched back to the standard filter after I saw first hand how easy it is to rip the longer filter off.

You can classify the lifter tray mod as a "feel good mod" if you want, but I would call it added insurance. The fact is the LS motors suffer from poor oil drain back at higher rpm. The problem can be compounded with a high volume oil pump. My .02
