Default lq9 piston help

Hey guys sorry about another lq9 piston thread. I need some help picking out a set of pistons. I'm installing a g5x2 cam, ls6 oil pump, and ls2 chain. The block is standard bore and stock crank, stock rods. It's a daily driver maybe 7 miles to work and 7 miles home. I'm not looking to build a 9 sec car.

Look into a good set of MAHLE's. Powerpak kit would be perfect for your setup if an aftermarket piston is needed and wanted.

SDPC has plenty of choices. I think they have an up grade kit for pretty cheap. I think power packs are roughly $800.00 but a very good choice and a tough piston kit that comes with piston, rings and I think even a pin. There are cheaper ways if you chose

I'm not looking to go big yet the car isn't paid off. Would it be safe to run the stock pistons with new rings? Sorry just can't make up my mind. Or be smart to buy after market pistons. Just got the block back from the machine shop new cam bearings, rod bearings, crank bearings. Again only g5x2 110lsa with double springs, 3800 stall, ported ls6 pump, ls2 chain, ls6 intake, 317 heads. Track maybe 1-2 times a year. I'm more of a carshow guy. Thanks guys I'm new to engine stuff.

Stock pistons are fine as long as you haven't honed to much from cylinder wall. But you would have to put the same piston and the same rings back in the same hole to get a good seal. Exactly the same hole they came from. Other wise with factory piston and new rings you need to hone cylinder wall. New rings means honing cylinder wall to get them to seal

The machine shop said standard ring size would be fine. That all they did was deglazed the bores that its still stock bore size. So its not a good thing to change the rings.

i would use the factory flat tops with the coated skirt and floating pins...the lq9s are a very nice factory piston...if you have to pay the same price as aftermarket though i would go with mahle, wiseco, or diamonds

Put new rings on the coated factory pistons If the cylinders were honed. Rings are cheap. and that would be the proper way to do it. Lq9 pistons are coated skirt and top of piston is also coated. Buy new rings for those pistons if it's with in spec. Or buy piston and rings your choice. But I don't think any Genlll piston is a floating piston.

What's done to the heads? That cam might not clear the pistons. Make sure you check piston to valve clearance. Probably need to fly cut or get aftermarket pistons

The heads are stock. The cam I'm sure will clear. Tx speed recommend the v3 cam, but I got a deal on g5x2 cam. The specs are almost the same. I picked up new rings today from the machine shop. I'll be building this motor myself hope everything goes smooth.
