Default Stock rocker arms

How many of you are running completely stock rocker arms(no trunion upgrade) with aftermarket cams?

Plenty people are using bone stock rockers with cams I will be using mine with my cam and it's 600+ lift on in/ex but i will be doing the tiunion upgrade, I mean its only $100 and a little labor but for the added safety I think its worth it!!!

Depends on whether you want needle rollers everywhere when a stock rocker gives out.

I've got stock rockers on mine with a Torquer v2 cam. No problems here...and know lots of others using them with cam upgrades and high miles. They seem to be a pretty good peice if you get the geometry correct which is very simple.

^^^Yea i agree, GM makes these rockers to last for the long haul....I dont think the trunnion upgrade is a neccesity unless you are beating the snot of the car every single time you turn the key

No need for anyone to mention the trunion upgrade cause I know of it. Just wanted to know of the people who were running came without the upgrade. I always here about the needle bearings failing but I was wondering dos it actually happen that often?

I have plenty of times, but generally I look at the cam profile and valve springs to determine if the trunion upgrade is needed for the engines application.

What valve springs and cam profiles would need the upgrade?

I can't answer the last question but I can tell You this ,,,,,,,,,,,I've read maybe 2 threads or possibly 3 threads on here of stock rocker failure of some sort and that's in the 2 years and 2 or 3 months I've been a member ,,,,,,,,not bad track record at all ,,,,,,,,,,but I had a thought and went with it which was to spot weld the needle bearing caps to the body of the GM rockers ,,,,,so I covered the open shaft area so splatter would'nt contaminate the bearings and although My motor is'nt quite together and running yet I'm confident that it will eliminate the possibility of a cap popping out ,,,,or a race rather .

So you effectively added an uneven weight to your rockers.... the

Well acyually I welded them the same which is as little as possible to hold ,,,,,,,,,,not gonna be anything but a work El Camino but should they exibit undesirable harmonics I do have a complete set of untouched rockers ,,,,,,so ,,,,I guess we'll have to let the engine be the

Yea i wouldnt think that weld would do anything other than hurt the balance of the rocker, moving parts like the rocker (especially valvetrain) moves so many times a second that even though its a little bit of added weight, will exponentialy be undesirable for balance, not too much harmonics involved with rockers, thats more of a rotating assembly issue...

no harmonics in the rocker arm? take a look at this valve spring, where do you think thoes reverberations are coming from?

when i say not much harmonics i mean less than a rotating assembly...the harmonics involved with that video you show is only a single degree of freedom system, where as a rotating assembly has many degrees of freedom, making the harmonics much more complex...a simple spring system is the lowest order dyanmic system that can be modeled, and is whats taught to freshman engineering students...

i guess i will have to be more clear...

oh and it would be called cycling, not reverberating...im not sure that word has a use when describing a dynamic system

I would re-use them if they have low mileage.

I'm choosing to replace mine because they have 145k miles.

i did the trunion upgrade solely because I like tinkering with stuff. There are too few instances posted about the stock trunions failing for me to really worry about it.
