Default 317 heads/LS9 Head gasket/which pushrod

Hey guys, the last part i need to start my icon build are a set of hardened pushrods. I just went through 8 pages of search and couldn't find my answer.

02 LS1 stock bottom end
LS9 head gaskets
02 LS6 Z06 Cam
stock 317 heads with Patriot dual extreme springs

Looking for pushrod length. I only have 1 day off a week and I work 12's (ADAF) and really want to get started. Any input would be appreciated. I'm thinking 7.400 looks good but looking for someone that is already running this setup to hopefully chime in and help out! Thanks!!

I dont have this setup but the LS6 cam has a smaller base circle so you might need 7.425" pushrods.

Thats what i was thinking as well since the base circle is .050 smaller, that would leave .025 for the radius thus requiring a .025 longer pushrod. But the LS9 head gaskets are whats kind of throwing a wrench in it.

Does the .025 longer hold true if using a LXL lobed comp cam? Would the preload be within limits still while having quieter valve train?

you have to measure, I wouldn't guess. especially since not all heads are identical cc's.. I had some 243 heads measure in at 65cc..

I won't be measuring. It'll get 7.400's if I don't hear a good answer otherwise.

Smaller base circle cam, thinner gasket. Do yourself a favor and measure or have someone who knows how to do it. Save yourself the headache and issues that will come with incorrect pr length.

+1 as easy as it is to measure, and as cheap as the tool is, its good insurance to be sure that you have the correct length.

We have the length checker for $19.99

I'm measuring as soon as I get my heads on. Had to wait on new bearings.

I am pretty sure if the heads have not been milled and you're using a stock head gasket then the push rods will be the same length as the stock ones.

I swear to God I hate this damn groundhog day thread. At least measure one cylinder if you are going to guess. My motor varied by 0.020 over the range of all valves. I'm running short-travel lifters but Im running 4 different lengths of customs to cover that range.

People that dont have the time (1hr) or the money ($20) to do it right...do you have time to do it over? .possibly replacing what broke?

Measure or just slap it together and hope, but for the love of God stop asking.

Hey great advice and good for you, you don't like the thread then skip to the next. Oh and yeah, I measured and took the hour to measure and got 7.4 all the way around. I asked the question for a reason and got 5 other helpful responses. Thanks

Yeah, wasn't responding to your post from January but can see how it reads that way. good to hear that even though there are hundreds of threads on here recommending that you measure you took the helpful advice above and measured anyway. You can see my point I hope, even though my original comment wasn't directed at you per se?
