Default Need machine shop

I have a 01 5.3 block wanting to go to ls1 specs..question is I live in Louisville and am trying to find a good machine shop that has worked On ls stuff

Any advice will be helpfulL

You could call Fast Track Performance there in Louisville and see who they would recommend. I don't know if they do machine work firsthand, but usually performance shops like them have a person or two of interest they use.

Some shops charge more to bore 5.3 to ls1bore bc they can take all that material off in one single pass, thus the bigger charge...just telling you what I've seen

yes most shops do it in one pass.......which is stupid in my opinion

i took my 5.3 to ls spec like you are talking about i did the bore in 2 steps to allow proper cooling time and not to warp the hole

when i set it up for finish bore it did taper a little bit but still in spec to straighten out during the 4 step of finish bore

someone else i know took the whole bore in 1 stroke and found out the hard way as to how these units do warp

just my 2 cents...........


i did all my own work on the machineing process

I've never machined, thats a pretty handy trade to know though wish i could! I'm kinda just goin of my engineering intuition, I like to hear it validated in real world application...cool
