Best thing in my eyes. If someone can do a killer port job on 241s then it still appears to be a stock head cam only ls1.

I thought I was too. I decided the WS6 will stay NA but with a nice mild H/C/I setup. The next toy will be FI

The ports and chambers are different on the 243's. You would actually need to add material in the 241 intake port to replicate the 243 port.

I forgot to mention I would be going with the high CR 219cc full cnc 241s. So thats what I was compairing to the full cnc'd 243s. If there was no option for the higher CR 241s then it would be an automatic for me to buy 243s and send'em.

My 243 heads are on the way to AI for a full 226cc port, valve job and have them come up with a nice mild cam.

What are they looking at on turnaround?

Very curious about your AI H/C results. Please post a thread after dyno'ing.

I will. The cam is their 230/234 0.600" lift grind that is a pretty mild lobe for today's standars. I also got a "Mamofied" FAST 102 to replace the BBK as well. I'll start a thread when it's finished.

I just sent some 243 heads out to AI on Monday. I was told it would be about ~2 weeks turn around time. That's also time for them to grind a custom cam.

I would speculate that most peak and average difference between the two heads would have to do with cam selection and header design/size. I bet an apples to apples comparison with a mild cam (say my hotcam which is nothing radical and has a small lift (.525") would show similiar results. As duration and lift get bigger, I bet the 243 shows some advantages, but for mild, I bet the 241s hold their own.

Ported 243s will make more power. I never knew why. For the longest, the answer was "just because".. but I asked the right people and was directed to some pictures. You can see why the 243 flows better. It doesn't have that sharp turn before the valve, rather a smooth turn.

Left is 243 right is 241

Looks like the 243 is a better head no matter how you slice it...ha!

It does look like the port has a straighter shot into the bowl area below the valve, great pics!

Thanks for posting those pics. So the 241 has basically no short side radius?

My 241's have a short side radius now

I used head slices like the ones you posted when I ported my 241's.
Great pics
