Default stock 241 heads?

How much lift are stock 241 heads/springs good for? 2002 casting from a Z28 if it matters. And how much reliable hp/tq will stock 241' s and a stock ls1 intake/tb support?
Thanks for any help.

Stock lift...if you want a bigger cam you absolutely have to change springs.

Using anything over stock lift with stock springs is playing with fire. They're barely adequate for a stock cam.

As said above, stock springs are just barely good enough for stock lift....even if GM only saves a dollar or two on lower quality springs per car, it adds up quick to a every large savings per year.

As for cam, I'm running my ported/ milled 241's with dual valve springs and a 255/263 .624/.624 115lsa

Thanks for the info. That makes sense about cost savings. Tens of thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands sets of ls1 heads. That could save truckloads of money.

Does your shortblock have anything upgraded besides the cam?
What's your thoughts on street manners, hp &tq and overall impression of that cam?
Stock intake?

No where near stock lol. 408 stroker, 12.5:1 compression on pump gas, fully forged with fuel cutoff set st 8,000 rpm. I'm running a ported Edelbrock proflo xt and 60lb injectors.

In my stock cube 346 I ran and liked a 238/242 112lsa cam....it was a cold bitchy setup, but in my opinion streetable

Lol! Those are important details to know. Not that I was going to run out and buy the cam you have in the 406 for my 5.3. Haha

I have a set of 241 heads and am going to use them on a 5.3 with flat tops, mild cam and either a ls1 or ls6 intake. I really want a decent street motor made of factory parts. Nothing crazy, just fun.

For your 5.3 I'd go with the ls6 intake, a good set of beehive springs (like PAC,or comp) hardened pushrods (you would need to measure for correct length), and probably around a 228/230 duration (for a bigger cam) or if you want stockish with more power across the board maybe something like a 224/224 with just under .600" lift (spring life is greatly increased if you stay under .600" lift), then a 112-114 lsa.

Like you said, your working on a 5.3, not a 408, remember more cubes really eat up extra cam duration.

Good advise thanks! I'll go on the smaller side of the cam choices. I want a broad torque curve, nothing "peaky". I'm using a manual tranny and its going in a 1970 camaro rs. Just a fun street car that I want to be able to drive anywhere. I want reliable, durable and fun.
I have 220 k on the 5.3 in my truck and its never had any issues.
I'd like the same no hassle use from the car. But with more power.
