so the hd timing set i ordered isnt a ls2 chian? when you say dampaner you talking about the timing chain tensioner that's in aluminum blocks? im running a iron 5.3 truck block that isnt drilled and tapped for it.

if you have the block out and apart and dont feel 100% confident you will get it 100% correct the first time take it to a reputable machine shop and have them drill and tap it for you. They shouldn't charge more than 40 bucks or so to do that

For about 10-15 bucks more u can get an OE. I wouldn't do aftermarket, especially when building an engine. Chain is the link that holds all together. 

im just worried bout the slack in the timing chain im waiting on a nother timing set from advanced to get in. if it dosnt have as much slack as what the hd timing chain does ill run it. dont wanna have to worry bout my timing chain breaking

i built my motor about a year ago and have been spraying 150 on it with about that much slack in it and have had no problems out of it. i have also replaced chains and gears on other 5.3 trucks and had no problems and they have all seemed to have about the same slack as yours

I'm doing a build right now and went back and forth trying to figure out what to do about the slack in my Yank set with an LS2 chain. It was about the same as what you show but only had ~2500 miles on it. I went with a Cloyes Hex-a-just because they use a slightly larger crank sprocket to take out some of the slack. You also get a thrust bearing and the infinite adjustment is nice too. High quality piece, and there is almost no slack in the chain whatsoever.

I just got done installing a new cam motion cam today, and I also went with the Cloyes Billet true roller Speed set, and I now have very little slack in my timing chain now. I could not believe how lose my old set was.
