ticking and clacking sound
hey everyone, ive been trying to figure out this ticking sound ive been having for a while. basically it all started when my battery died and i had to have a taxi jump my car with cables. he was parked really close to my drivers side so i got in on the passenger side and put one hand on the gas with moderate pressure and then turned the key. when it fired up it went to like 4500rpm or so before i could get my hand off the pedal. when i let go i heard all of this valvetrain clatter for several minutes until it was about 80% gone but still its been just slightly louder than it was before the dead battery. then one cold morning months later i started up the car to a very loud clacking noise. more of a deeper note than the usual valvetrain ticking. now the clacking seems to come and go. ill get off the highway and get to a red light and hear it for a few seconds then it will dissappear and then come back later its wierd. the link below is a video i took where u can definitely hear the ticking and once in a while u can hear the lower pitched clackety sound. anyone have any idea what it can be? the ls7 lifters in my car are only about 5000 miles old.

put your video on youtube so I and others can watch it. your lifters were all the way bleed down when you went to 4500 rpms, might have fucked up a lifter. if you have a cam and aftermarket springs you might have broken a spring or if double springs maybe an inner spring. pull a valve cover to make sure its not the springs, then go from there

OK, aftermarket springs, 1.85:1 rockers, stock cam. Not a very risky setup assuming the springs were set up properly and they're not fatigued.
I'd remove and test the pushrods as mentioned previously, inspect the valve tips for impact damage or excessive wear, and go from there.

well after my cam swap and getting my heads back from A.I. all of the parts that were on the car were fine except for the spring seats. there were spring seats meant for stock or behive springs being used with my duals and they werent sitting exactly how they were supposed to but everything is back together now and the sound is gone. there still some minor valvetrain noise but its just the normal big cam sound nothing out of the ordinary like before.
