Default Need engine advice - Cam, and more

Hey guys,

I'm new to this and I need some help, there are probably a bunch of mistakes in this post as to what stuff is listed under and everything, so i apologize for that in advance. I just really need some help on my build. I have no past engine building experience, and no experience with LS1's...the build I'm going with is just what friends have told me to use, and combinations on this site that I see make big power...

I'd like to get some opinions on my engine build, and what I need/don't need and also what cam to get. I'm trying to attain the most possibly horsepower from a non FI 346 LS1.(I may go to a pro-charger in the future) Keep in mind, this will be my first engine "build" so I don't really know everything...I will attempt to disassemble/reassemble an old school 350 (has two spun bearings, so now harm can be done) before I attempt the LS6 build up.

The engine will be going into a Pro-Touring 68 Camaro.

I will start with a low mileage(hopefully) take out LS1/T56 from a salvage yard. I'll try and give as many details about the drivetrain as possible.

Engine Details:

Patriot Performance Stage II LS6 Style Heads
Cam - ?
LS6 intake manifold
MTI Billet 75mm Throttle Body
Roll Master Double Roller Timing Chain
Relocated Coils
Tayler 409 Race Wire
NGK Spark Plugs
Comp 1.85 Roller Rockers
MSD Ignition - Which one?
What Valve Springs?

Cooling System
Ron Davis Custom Aluminum Racing Radiator Converted to AN fittings
Meziere Electric Water Pump

Fuel System
Custom Baffled Aluminum Fuel Tank w/ Baffled Sump
Speed Inc. High Flow Fuel Rails
Aeromotive 1000HP Pump
Aeromotive EFI Fuel Filter
Aeromotive Fuel Regulator A1000

Exhaust System
Street and Performance Headers
Custom Dual 2.5" Exhaust w/ X-Pipe
Borla Sportsman Oval XR1 Muffler 2.5" Inlet/Outlet (16" x 4 1/2" x 7 7/8")

Other
T56 w/ upgraded 3-4 shift fork and other D&D parts
B&M Ripper Shifter
Ford 9 inch rear w/ 3.91 gears, 33 spline axels
Forged 3-piece Kinesis wheels - 18x12 out back with 335/30/18's and 18x10 up front with 275/35/18's (Michelin Pilot Sports)
The entire car except for hard line will be converted over to SS braided line and AN fittings
Car should weigh in at about 3350lbs w/ me in it.

So here are my questions:

What cam to get? (Keep in mind, I want an aggressive cam, but the car will see just as much road racing and auto-xing as drag racing.) Also, how will these cams act on the street, and what kind (rpm) of an idle am I going to be looking at?

The cams that I am looking at are:
Comp Cams CC-Custom7 (231"/237" .589"/.595" 112LSA")
Futural Motorsports FM-F13-114 (230"/232" .591"/.585" 114LSA")
TSP Custom 231/237 Cam: 231/237, .598"/.595", 112 LSA
G5X3 (Specs? I'm not even sure who makes this cam, but I know people make good power with it)

What Ignition?
What Valve Springs?
What size fuel lines?
Who should I have tune the ECM? I'm in NY. Cartek?

Thanks for your time and any help you may provide,
Ralph

Ralph, that is alot of info to digest at once. I suggest that you spend more time here reading and I believe all the above will be answered.

Here are my simple answers to your questions.

Call on your vendor of choice and get their advice on a H/C package.

Go with the stock ignition.

Call Speed inc. >>>>>>>>>>>> about the fuel stuff, they have it all.

Get the ecm dyno tuned after it's in the car.
