Default TRex Cam ?'s

Spring reccomendation?

I put about 5000 miles a year on my car...have to get emissions inspected every 2 years...if I pull the cam/springs- replace with original for that...then re-install cam with new springs...should I be in good shape?

Will it play nice with a 4400 stall A4?

How would it be around town? (ie- is it terrible before 3000rpm?)

You'll need a dual spring. Thunder recommends either the Crane or Comp spring. Can't help you with the stall question, but I know a big one is recommended, so you should be fine. I'm no expert, though.

this is just a comparison for you... I ran a 225lb set pressure/425lb open pressure .700 liift spring with a solid roller. I ran 1 season and before winter(6 months storage!) backed the open valves to close so all were seated. This method the springs lasted 3 years. 1 year I left the rockers tight and spun the motor over a few times during winter. In the start of the season I had 3 broken springs.
I guess I'm hinting that if you only use 5000 miles of open/close time on them and while resting they are in the seated position perhaps they will last longer than you think...
good luck!

That's a great idea chief.
I'm going to look into some Isky Offshore Powerboat racing springs as well (talk to my engine builder). We used a custom set on our BBC 427 with GREAT results...I wonder if they make some which might fit the LS1- they cost a bit more, but last a looooooong time.

I just did the install.Just Cam,Springs, pushrods and double row timing chain on a 99SS..The Cam definitly won't pass any sniffer test..The Cam after tuning is actually tame and would work with a 4000 stall easy enough.

You'll be fine with that converter. I'm going to use a ss3800 in my car with the trex. I think my converter feels alittle looser than a 3800 though.

z28 hokie, they should last you 15k - 20 k depending on how hard you run it... i plan on going with this cam also.. are you from blacksburg??? why dont you just register your car here and forget the emmisions BS...??? VA DMV is easy to get around.. you can claim storage and your mailing address's in different locations.i do work for the DEQ and EPA and they are not planning any requirments for our area in the future.

I did cam, pushrods, valve seals, double springs and ti retainers. Thunder Racing sells the entire kit for 850.00, not bad if you ask me.

That's what I was figuring- 15k to be on the safe side. I actually graduated tech last may & live up in Loudon County now... Can I just get a PO box in bburg and register my car to that?

really you dont even have to do that.. do you know anyone at the DMV??? you can do it online also.. just change the county the vehicle is "stored" its pretty easy to do.. i think that will fix it.. i am positive it works for your tax's... i do it for the tax reason. i can ask my contact at the DMV to see if it applies to the emmisions thing also, i sure they go by where the car is located.

I'm using the Crane Springs with my TRex. The 4400 stall is perfect, but stock gearing isn't so nice when your verter is locked up..

I'm thinking 4000 stall...TH400...4.10 rear gears... Really try to match it to the cam...
