Default Ouch... Lifter eats my cam

Had a lifter eat my cam. So..... I installed a TR CheaTR cam. Pretty happy with it so far. The cam that got ate was a TR 224. I also upgraded the lifters and lifter trays.

The specs below are from the Thunder Racing site:

99-TR-CHEATR v.3-CAM Thunder Racing Custom Camshaft
" CheaTR v.3" - 219/230 .607/.604 117 LSA. Off Idle-6800 RPM Power Band. Broad power range. Works well with stock exhaust manifolds and catalytic converters. Stock like idle in 5.7L or Larger. Minor tuning required on automatic transmission cars.

Mods:
- Thunder Racing CheaTR Cam
- LS6 intake
- Corvette Oil pump
- FLP full-length headers w/ 3" off-road pipes
- Dynomax Super Turbo Muffler
- TEA Stage 1.5 heads
- 3.73 gears
- Subframe connectors w/ welded in relocation brackets
- BMR AdjustableTorque Arm and Panhard Rod
- Rebuilt (stronger than stock) transmission
- Lowered 1.5 inches with Eibach pro kit and Edelbrock IAS Shocks
- Kenwood head unit with polk/momo speakers and pollk/momo 975 watt amp

What caused it ti fail...... my guess is the crap LS1 lifters in stalled on these cars. It did show some wear on it from other lifters, but the #3 intake lifter had a flat spot on it from it failing. It wasnt real "gritty" (thank god) but was gummd up a little. So she got LS7 lifters with LS2 trays. For now I have put a stock tune back on it, and it seams to do alright. Its only been a week so far, more to follow. Yester day I did bump the idle up to 850 rpm..... but today I will reflash it back to stock. I bumped it up because of the slight shake it had..... but I kninda liked it. With the headers and 3" pipes I have..... there is no "cheater" cam about it... you can tell it has one. Running the stock tune the rpm was in the mid 600 range. I went with this cam because I wanted a streetable cam that didnt need a stall. When I bought the car in December, the guy I got it from just had the tranny rebuilt, and put in a factory stall because he wasnt sure if he wanted to keep dumping more money in it before he sold it. With the factory stall, and the 224 cam, it realy wanted to push through the brakes at the lights. So instead of getting a cam kit (Cam, springs, push rods) for close to $800, and dumping money in a stall (close to a grand).... I just went with a milder cam. My other option was the "old man cam" from thunder racing. But when I called them the sales guy kept pointing towards this one.

Best thing to do is spend a extra $130 for Morel link bar lifters instead of the LS7 lifters and lifter trays.

It isn't always the lifters fault. Cam hardening can play a role in a camshaft failure as well.

i have seen to many of these some from cam hardening and some from lifter failures. i had a ls7 lifter lock up in my lt1 and take out my cam. i have seen a few cam hardening issues at work as well as a couple lifter issues. on all of the new vehicles gm claims its the cam not being hardened properly. i had one come out of a truck that the lobe was completely ate off and only a circle left
