Default silver dust in oil filter

Hi

i have a LS2 404ci was rebuilt year ago

it has about 1800miles on it after rebuild

first 500 break in miles was on joe gibbs break in oil then the next 1000 miles and few track visits on non-synthetic VR1 10-30 oil then the last 300miles on Royal purple 10-40 and i decided to change oil after last track visit on the spray i´m also installing a oil cooler and a vacuum pump.

and decided to open the oil filter up , and i found very fine silver dust in the filter some of it was magnetic but most was not.

Is that normal or should i be worry about it?
the oil pressure has always been the same 40-45psi in normal driving (50-60 cold )and 20-25 in idel after it warmed up (it´s higher cold)

they are not big flakes and no copper color i inpected that well just a fine dust (silver), but i was suprised to see that much of it after only 300 miles on the oil, but then again maby this is old dust from the first break in miles that where laying in the pan.

what do you guys say, pull it out and install new bearing or just run it and monitor pressure and inspect the oil filter after next oil change.

Is the dust magnetic? If so then it isn't bearing material.

sounds ot me like it was probably just still breaking in a little bit, they say 500 miles for a break in but its probably going to still wear in some after that, its a brand new engine and you still have very low miles on it

Default oil flakes

sounds like you could be seeing the moly used to assemble the engine, take a few shots and post'em up. another question, can you wipe it between your finger and feel any major chunks? how fine is it?

it´s very very fine i don´t feel anyting just like i have a glimmer in my hands, but my friend said he saw tiny tiny silver flakes in there too but they are very small.

I didn´t use moly assemblie lube though

I'd keep an eye on your oil pressure and wait a few more oil changes before you freakout...probably like said above its your engines still breaking in and cleaning itself out

Was it a new block, heads and parts? if so how much block and head prep was done? The new stuff has alum burrs all over it. You can put hours in just de burring a block and head casting, not going any final cleaning. alot of shops don't do, those edges go some
were.

Ya Im with what other said, sounds like it not tearing anything up if its that many miles. Its normal to find the alum dust on new fresh stuff, stock crate motors or new builds.

Agreed - it really sounds like assembly lube.

it was a rebuild reused block and heads
here is the build threat https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...ls2-404ci.html

I got knocked out... first broken piston, and then crack in the Crank and span a bearing
