Default L33 with LS1 Heads

I am building a 5.3 aluminum block with flat top pistons...will the LS1 (853) heads be a good combo for a stock daily driver ???

I can get a good set for $100.

Do you have the stock 799 heads? They are better...with the ls1 heads you will lose a lil bit of compression..you would go from 9.9:1 to like 9.7-9.75:1 compression...you can get ls1 stock heads for under 100 bucks all day on parts classified...but a 100 for nice clean heads aint bad at all.

you should get 853 heads for free, unless there are rebuilt.you can get some used 243/799 heads for $400,worth 15 more hp.do a good valve job and get some good springs.look at TSP for heads ,parts ,and a cam.

No I dont,I bought the bottom end & building a motor. Not looking for all out power, just a daily driver with better power than a 4.3.

Trying to keep the price down so I can get this thing in (S10) & peps are getting $400 plus for the 799's.

So the LS1's will work ??

Thanx for your input .

Wouldn't be my head choice, they will work though. Get the 706 heads or the 863 heads that came on the lm7 and 4.8s. They will put you in the 10.4:1 range.

Yea def I would go with the 5.3 heads before ls1 heads because these engines like compression...but the 853s you speak of will work just fine...

Thanx guys, just looking to get this running & found a set of 853 heads for $100 shipped.

Once I get it in then I will work on the performance end,its costing a lot to get it in as is so just looking to keep the cost down.

What head gasket would I use ?? 5.3 or 5.7 or are they the same ?? I might even bore it to 5.7.....

You will have to use a 5.7 head gasket with the ls1 heads...l33 originally used 5.7 head gaskets stock as well
