A little humor for you...or what happens when a machine shop isn't LS savvy...
I bought a 2000 Z28 last year. It was missing the transmission and the engine was a big question mark. It had aftermarket heads, but I didn't know what was inside. I decided to pull the heads off before I tried to start it and found this:
The engine had Mahle pistons in it and I looked up the part numbers. I found that they were for a 4.005" bore! Yes, some shop bored a stock LS1 block 4.005" and this is the result. I thought some of you might get a laugh out of that. Luckily, the rotating assembly is still in good shape, so I am transferring everything to a LQ4 block.

Don't sweat the little things man, it's just a "recommendation." Nothing says you can't bore it to 4.100 lol. What year was this motor? Wonder if you could still resleeve it? Looks like the ribs may be alright.

lol that's what I thought. Either the person that brought them the engine said, "Bore it to this spec.," and the shop told them that you're gonna run into problems but customer said "I don't care." Or the shop said, "ah **** it, that ****'ll buff right out," and they commenced to honing lmao. Either way, pretty impressive, someone needs to be smacked for it.

I think you guys are being too easy on whatever shop did this. Stop and think about it this way.
They didn't just heavily bore a block known to not accept much overbore, the bored it more than .1
How many OEM blocks can handle that kind of overbore? Then how many made in the last 30 years could handle it?
I would not say the shop was lacking LS1 knowledge I would say they are just flat out incompetent.
Common sense would dictate if considering boreing any block that far sonic testing is in order and before even doing that it wouldn't be hard to research if there was any vague possibility a bore that size would fit.
