Store bought brands:

Any top shelf synthetic oil, 0W-30, 5W-30. Mobil One extended oil filter.

I use Castrol German (GC) 0W-30 and a Fleetguard oil filter.

For filters, stay away from Fram, STP, Quaker State, any store brand filter and Fram.

Use whatever oil you want, but stay away from the cheapo stuff like Napa and O'reilly. Just keep it changed often, refer to the manual for the correct weight.

Good to know! What about Peak oil? My local Napa has it for pretty cheap.

I tried T6 but it caused some very loud tapping in the valvetrain. 10W-30 made it much quieter. Going to try 5W-30 next.

"best oil" question typically nets nothing but subjective answers. but you don't really know anything about your oil until you have a sample analyzed from your application.

I use Royal Purple 20-50 with a K&N filter. Or a WIX filter sometimes...stay away from Fram. I believe i saw a test on them where the paper material inside really really slows down the oil, possible starvation. Someone know about this? I also heard in the old days Pennzoil used perafin wax in there oil. I have seen some old T Birds oil pans that were completely sealed in the stuff. WOW!!! i dont know if it is in their products now? But i will NEVER use it EVER!!

my new motor instructions required me to use Valvolive 20/50 mineral oil so I am using Valvoline 20/50 VR1, that's what I will continue using. As for the filter was told to use AC Delco. I have found a lot of drag racers with 800+ hp at my local track use the oil.

Sorry if hijacking OP, but what lifters/lobes are you running? I am running the Johnsons in my sig, LSL lobes...has never tapped with amsoil, napa, rotella, penzoil platinum, or M1. The guys at Johnson did say that high end lifters don't like real heavy oil because the clearances are so tight.

Valvoline VR1 is a very good oil but it has high zinc levels for flat tappet engines. Dont use it if you are running cats.

For what it's worth 5-30 and 10-30 are the EXACT same oil once at operating temp, the first number (5w,10w) is the oil viscosity when the engine is cold, use 10w in the summer and 5w in the winter...Mobil 1 here, but any quality synthetic is good

That might be true, but what is considered "operating temp"? If the engine may be running cool enough such that there is a difference. I have looked for charts/graphs of viscosity versus of oil weight and cant find any for 5W-30 versus 10W-30.
