Default Stock internal, how hard do you turn it?

Hey guys, got a few SI questions. I just purchased a 02 SS with 27k miles and I am wanting to play with it a bit. I am used to the car in my signature so tuning stock stuff is a bit of a learning curve.

1. What is the highest you guys spin the stock valve train? Like 6300 or what?

I am tuning the car with EFI live so I can make any adjustments, just looking for opinions. I have a friend with a SI car that runs high 11s and shifts at 6200 however the car I purchased has a tune in it and is set at 6350. Is this way to high or what?

Thanks in advance!

well the rod bolts and valve springs are the weak link in high rpm stock internal motors. i upgraded to arps's and lunati vallvesprings in my cam only stock internal lq9 and i would shift around 7200 because thats where my cam made peak power. best bet is throw it on a dyno and see where your torque and hp curve stop climbing and shift at that point no point in "High revving" if your not making power. if your setup only builds power to 62 than shift there anything higher is a waste.

Thanks for the input. i would definately agree that a dyno is the best way to find peak power and torque but I will not have a chance before friday night's t&t to do so. I am just looking to make a few baseline runs to see where I'm at. I will save my dyno money for future mods to come. I'm more looking to see if the 6350 shift points are to sketchy for a stock valve train.

Hello , how goes it ? 6350rpm's is not at all a problem on SI especially with low miles like You'res .

With a stock LS1 cam I would not move the rev limiter, there is no point. You're done making power at like 5700 or so anyways.

You really want to shift 500rpms after peak power so 6300 seems reasonable

Mine shifts 1-2 around 6,000 and 2-3 around 6200. It trapped 113 last year so I don't think its really hurting anything.

I don't think I would go past 6200 tho. Like already stated the stock cam is out of steam by 5700 and already dropping power.

6350 is fine. My limiter has been between 6300-6600 for years. I still try to shift around 6200 though.
