Default Cam noob

I have been searching through this forum, "stickied" threads, and even bought a book about LS1s. I have gotten a small understanding on how heads and cam work but still cant figure out what is good option for my car. I guess I am having trouble understanding the numbers (probably because I am a very visual person, need to see it to understand it type thing). Does anyone have any more good articles or ANYTHING that can help me out!! please!
I would like to order the heads and cam before i go on leave so i can install them (in afghanistan now)when i get home.
I am on the verge of just giving up and buying a package from TFS or TSP or something... i would rather not though.

ANY ADVICE? or did I not make any sense at all? LOL

Hopefully no more then 3 grand! the budget is pretty flexible though.
While I'm at it I should probably mention there are no plans of Supercharging or anything, just N/A for now.

The tsp packages are great! You can do a one stop shop and order everything at once. If all else fails I think ls1.com had even more cam stuff on there stickys.

Try pming one of the sponsors they will get you in the right direction.

You are doing the same thing I am doing. As soon as I get back from Kuwait I have a head and cam package ready to go on too. Unless you are going to do the work yourself plan on a lot more than 3 grand. If you go used 243 heads for 350 plan on at least 3-500 to get them checked out and a valve job. TSP cam package is like 700 bucks. gasket kit is like 320, plus plan on a new oil pump, timing chain for another 200, if you are going to have someone do it for you look at 2K for labor on average and then around 400 for a dyno tune.

I really want to be able to do the work myself but I dont trust myself with this level of wrenching without someone to smack my hand away before I do something stupid.

whatever you do, plan on adding in a dyno tune ($400), bigger injectors like 36 or 42lb ($200), and atleast a ls6 intake and longtube headers to let the bigger cam and new heads breath ($700)

id do a high 220's duration intake, low 230's exhaust split on the cam, comp 918's, ls6 intake if you dont have it, stock 28 lb injectors should work but a bigger injector wouldnt hurt, pacesetter 1 3/4 headers, tsp y pipe, cutout.

IF you have a 6 speed your gonna have to upgrade the clutch imo and if your an auto you WILL have to buy a bigger converter.... and just pray if you have a 10 bolt.

look at a TSP PRC cam/head pkg,and also look at a vengeance racing cam head pkg.TSP has so many heads to choose from ,you have to talk to them to get a idea what you want.I see some people buy trick flow heads from vengeance racing and get a EPS cam that works great with them.with some TSP heads you can use stock rockers arms, but I recommend the trunnion bearing upgrade.check the TSP website and ask more question and we will try to help you .check out ls1howto.com for instruction and pics.also buy a ls1 book for more research.what yr car car do you have ?what intake do you want to use ?you probably need a bigger fuel pump and injectors .who will tune it for you ?
