over rev
I think i overreved the engine the other day. What happens to it? What should i look for? If no problems are detectable can there still be something wrong, thats not noticeable?
If you have no obvious valvetrain noise, or ticking you should be fine. You have a built in rev limiter that protects the motor from over revving. About the only thing you can do from over revving is float a valve. Unless you have programmed your rpm limiter in your pcm to a very high redline.
I have over reved my engine before, and all it does is set off a temporary SES code which quickly goes away.
No ticks, no grinding, no problems. Now stop worrying so much!!

ticking....pushrods bent.....9 out of 10 times a stock LS1 or mildly modded LS1 engine is over-reved pushrods are bent...other than that the stock bottom end can take 7500 rpm every now and then w/out too much worry....
if ur car is down on power check the PR's 1st...they're easy....after that...it's usually a sign u floated a valved and had a piston smack it..

mine hit the rev limiter a couple times cause my throttle cable got stock and i had one broken pushrod...took off the heads cause the knock was loud and found out my piston was caved into my cylinder wall......
