Default Dishwasher to clean heads?

These is my $162 dollar heads i scored on Ebay listed ad 06-09 5.3 cylinder heads...

I've "heard" it can be done to use the dishwasher to clean the heads.

Any opposition to this? 243's are getting new seals anyway with the Lunat .660 kit.

Just looking for some ideas from those "in the know"

You'll get them much cleaner if you take them to one of those coin car washes with the water guns.....kind of like pressure cleaners.

Lol. Are you serious or joking? I don't want this to turn into the "washer" thread that was the best ever, which was funny .... But honestly?

I've heard it done before. Wife told me she doesn't give a **** as long as I don't ruin the dishwasher.

I was looking for similar cleaning methods but talked to some local shops and they all were around $200 to clean, perform a 3 angle valve job, and reassemble heads. I knew they would get them cleaner than I could so I couldn't resist the package deal.

Except my shop also applied a quick spray of aluminum colored spray paint on the outside of the heads. Wasn't crazy that they did that without asking first but all together very happy with the job they did.

Lol, I remember your thread, Thumper, I guess it wasn't dry moly then... The only shop within 50 miles of me doesn't even have an LS Torque Plate, so I'm leery. However, Thunder and EPS are within an hour, so you never know.

3rd coast, I'm guilty of using the oven for a MULTITUDE of things already....

I was being serious....lol

Whats better than pressure washing them. Those coin operated car washes are perfect. Allot more pressure than a dishwasher.......and you can scrub them while your there if you want to.

When I worked at a machine shop we had a dishwasher and we would throw our cast aluminum parts in there after they got machined to remove the cutting coolant etc. Came out clean as a whistle.

Its gonna ruin the dishwasher.
Just pay a machine shop to inspect,vj,backcut, mill and assemble with you springs.
Maybe 200-300$. And better than new, just as clean as new and ready to bolt on.

the machine shop i go to charges 30 bucks to just clean a block and they look purty when done, i would imaging it would be similar for a disassembled head. even in other areas.

the dishwasher will be destroyed from metal in the jackets and whatnot.

Just get them hot tanked... A local machine shop told me 35 dollars for both. I'd just pay the 35 and be done with it.

A pan of kerosene and an old paint brush do wonders....I've done this a number of times.

Paid $42 to have mine hot tanked and a broken bolt extracted. Came out looking great. I wouldn't put them in the dishwasher.

Oh my God, I'm not alone.......but then I don't have a wife either........and sometimes the pizza tastes a little funny!

I have cleaned heads in the DW. But not filthy greasy ones. Now I just use elbow grease, carb and brake clean. I buy the stuff by the case.

That's pretty much what I was getting at. I wasn't going to yank them from the car and put them directly in the washer.

I intended to get them as clean as possible first, then throwing the bare heads in there just as an extra cleaning, so to speak.
