After building my 383 and having to buy everything to make the most of it, I think I would have been better off building a 6.0 block for nitrous, but I do still enjoy driving the car just my pocket book is hurting.

400 rwhp can be done with heads and cam, and would save you a ton of money.

If I were building a non-power adder street motor, I would do:

LS3 block
4 in forged crank
Forged rods/pistons
AFR or TFS head, probably 225-230 cc range
1 7/8 header
appropriate cam (really no need for super high rpms, peak around 6300-6400)
good lifter/pushrods/rocker arms
appropriate FAST 102 intake.
