Default Whats so special About LS2 chain?

Granted all my parts are new, they are stock LS1 new....

SO many raves about ported oil pumps and LS2 chain...

What makes this LS2 chain better than the LS1?

It's heavier duty compared to the LS1 chain. When I swapped in the new cam on my GTO, I had the shop install a LS2 chain. When they removed my old chain, I compared the two and the LS2 chain was way beefier. I think everything 2005 and later used the "LS2" chain.

Not my pic, but the LS1 chain is on the left compared to the LS2 chain on the right.

Is there a way to tell? Is there a part # on it? Seems my crate has all kinds of odd parts on it. I have that black tensioner on my engine that supposely doesnt exisit for LS1

If it has the tensioner, I'm guessing it has the LS2 style chain. Look at the photo in my last post and maybe you can eyeball it.

^^Thats an ls2 chain. Look to see if the links are different thicknesses. If they are, it's an ls2 chain.

Add that to the fact they are only $40 and it's really hard to beat.

My LS1 doesn't have a tensioner and it seems to be fine with just the LS2 chain swap.

Is it true that the LS2 chain has problems with too much slack?

According to my engine builder, all the stock chains have more slack than the aftermarket. They were designed this way as the computers that assemble the motors wouldn't be able to do so if they were tighter.

It seems like there is slack, but it's just enough to keep chain from flying apart during engine running...I thought the same thing bc I took my ls1 chain out during cam swap and was like "I'm glad I'm changing chain bc it's loose." then I put on ls2 chain and it had the same amount of slack...like I said just enough to put the right tension during operation...

Oh yea the guy with lq9 I believe you can use tensioner you will just have to drill and tap into the block, I know some have provisions and others you have to measure very precisely, but in my eyes the reward doesnt justify the risk! I know I ain't drilling a block unless I absolutely NEED to!

Good luck man...ls2 chain is budget perfection lol

Just a thought... After seeing how loose a new LS2 chain was, Im glad I installed a double roller. If your putting all your $$$ into building a motor why not spend another $50-60 extra and have the security of a double roller.

I dont want to start bitching fests here, common sense is a double is definitely stronger.
