Now that is someting I'd like to see also. Maybe one of the coated sheetmetal intakes also

Keep in mind we're probably talking about a car that is just sitting there at idle without the cooling benefits of an open throttle body or airflow through the engine bay from driving.
A more accurate depiction of the thermal layout of the engine bay would be to drive the cars aggressively, under identical conditions, then park, pop the hood, and snap the pics immediately. Maybe several repeated 0-60 runs in rapid sequence.
I would also assume a pic of a turbo car would show the turbo very close to the same temp as the engine block and headers.

I'll see what I can do.
Perhaps I will go ahead and do some setting up and see exactly what the stock LS6 intake does regarding heat soak. Do some normal driving and take a shot and them some spirited WOT runs and see what it looks like then.
As for any aftermarket intakes, no one around here has any so I can't do that.

As of last week, Flir Systems has some cameras priced as low as $10,000, the one I used is an old Agema 550 I use at work (I'm a refinery inspector) and it cost $50,000 new.

gillbot--Who's the instructor? I just took a class and had Ron Lucier from Flir. A lot of folks in there were using the P60s, nice cameras I must say. Mine's an Agema 550 short wave, an older model but it's a beast for looking at heaters and boilers and other super hot stuff in the refinery where I work.
I'm installing some headers this weekend, perhaps I will do a before and after of the stock manifolds versus the headers. Hell I can hook the coolant back up to the throttle body and try that too. hehe

I much prefer the 550 through 595 series. IMHO the P60 is a piece of... well, you get the idea. Ours is brand new about 7 months old and it has been at Flir for repairs about 6 of those 7 months. Even the P60 loaner they sent us rarely worked. I know alot of people in the IR buisness and they are not impressed with the P60 either. Many having repeated problems as well.
One thing about the 550 though, don't let it get too hot if you are working in warm areas. They don't take the heat too well and you can fry the detector or burn out the cooler. I used to work at a steel mill using a 550 and that thing didn't like being near hot metal or in out boiler rooms. I had to wrap it in ice packs to do the inspections in hot areas.

The way we use it it's only exposed to the heat for 10 seconds at a time max. We open a little viewing port on the heaters and look inside with the camera. No real application that we have to let it get overheated. Usually my hands get burned and I have to back off before the camera would have a chance to overheat.

While we're doing requests, I'd like to see a shot of the interior. I'm wondering how hot the floorboard gets during normal driving and if some light insulation would keep it cooler in summer months.

the cousin and me were playin around with this thermal camera my uncle brought home (he works for BASF). we asked him how much it cost and he said "45". to which we responded 45 hundred bucks? holy schneikies!! and he said no no no, 45,000$ to which we promptly placed it back in its stainless case and went about our merry way. so the 50k$ figure posted earlier is no BS.
