why different timing chains?
why different timing chains? ive been looking into doing heads and cams, and reading others builds and results and im curious why ppl use different timing sets, wether its ls2, single/double ,ls1 etc im still new to modding these cars so any help would be awesome, i'd like to learn as much as i can
the LS2 is not the factory replacement for the old LS1 timing chain. anytime you go in the motor, and swap a cam it is a good idea to change the timing chain. it is what holds the crank and cam together, if that breaks, you will likley tap every valve, if not break some pistons. i got my new LS2 timing chain for 40 bucks, no reason not to replace it.
The LS2 chain's links are actually a little more beefier. Like metioned, they stretch over the years and I would be more concerned about that than it breaking. A new chain can break just as easily and the old one. If your car has moderatly high mileage, it is a good idea to replace those parts because you are already there.

the picture above tells all its a much better piece then the factory chain that now has 60,000 miles on yours. Also stated they do tend to stretch with higher milage not saying your wont be fine but its one less thing to worry about going wrong.

It's not the chain that rubs, its the oil pump because of having to shim where the pump mounts to the block so it will clear the chain on the backside. Forcing the pump towards the front cover causing clearance issues.
