Default 5 angle valve job?

Can anyone explain the beneftis of a 5 angle valve job on the intake side of some 243's. Brett at Land Speed offers a 5 angle race valve job on his stage 2 and 3 243/799 heads. Is that common? I've heard of 3 angle valve jobs, but not 5.

And that's the exact opposite from what I heard. I was told a 3 angle is for racing, and a 5 was for the street....

A good valvejob is more about the angles than the number of angles. The extra angles are typically both under the bottom cut, and the number of angles doesn't necessarily make it only for a street application or race application. That would be more of a result of the angles themselves.

Good info there. Thank you. Do you know the number of angles the typical 243/799 head porters do; i.e. AI, TEA, TSP, etc.?

It depends on the company, the extent of work (ie stage 1/2/3), etc. Four angles are actually very common, where they will come in with a 3 angle cutter (top, seat, and bottom cuts) and then come back with a 70-75 degree bowl cut.

Also, exhaust valvejobs can have twice as many angles as the intake in some cases.

It doesn't really matter the number of angles as much as the angles themselves! And you rarely, if ever, see or hear any head porter share their data.

I'd have to disagree, those two extra cuts can make a big difference in some cases. Of course, it depends on many variables throughout the induction path, but it can be of significant benefit.
