Are you running the pcv system correctly with a catch can ?
If not, that's probably where the oil is coming from.

To verify, disconnect and plug the pcv inlet to the intake and vent the crankcase. Drive it and see if it smokes.

I'm not an expert by any means, so take what I have to say with that in mind. I just don't see how bad rings could cause that. I would lean more towards valve guides and seals. IMHO.

Thats alot of oil. The only way I would consider the rings being bad is if they had so much blowby that it was overwhelming the PCV system. Valve seals could explain the puddling of oil after shutdown. Then again if you had massive blowby the PCV could be coating the intake runners with oil and it puddling on the valves after shutdown too. Like others said disconnect the PCV and put a breather on. Then drive the car awhile and recheck if you still have this issue.

Make sure when you have the heads off to measure your valve stems, and the valve guides. You may need to have the guides replaced or knurled.

Is this a ls1 block with a 4" stroke crank to make the 383ci ? What heads do you have on this motor ? Head gaskets are determinded by the cc size of your heads.

Mine did that in January, and new valve seals fixed it. Same oil on top of the closed valves....valve seals need to be replaced. I even r&r'd them once, but apparently I installed them wrong and the machine shop had to install them again.

Your pistons look cleaner than i would have expected to see. It looks like you have GMs MLS head gaskets. Can you find a casting # on the heads ? I would take your heads to a machine shop and let them clean and inspect the heads. Replace the valves seals, check the guides, and let them vacuum test the heads..
