I got the trex with 59ccs,4.30s and a t56. The cam surge below 1800 or so sucks. The car is not tuned for drivability just the WOT and idle. The reason for that is because I haven't upgraded my intake yet. So before I change the cam to sometiing smaller, I was wondering how much of the surge I can eliminate out of the trex. Yes I know the tuner plays a huge roll but I'm looking for real world experiences. My other cam of choice is a pat g 235/242 109 lsa. Yes I know the lsa also plays a roll but I'm switching to a proflo I take so I wanna keep a 109-110 lsa.

A cam that big is always going to have issues tuned great or not, yes ya can get alot of the issues down but thats a huge cam and with a huge cam comes huge cam problems,my ms4 car runs great on the street but that comes with a well setup car and alot of time in the tune, sorry i dont want someone to read this and get the wrong idea, really if your worried about cam surge/bucking etc that cam is not for you

I was just wondering how much you can tune out. I dont mind it at 1200 rpms. I just don't like it 1300+ when it forces me to downshift do to the surging. Im going turbo in a few years but I may try another custom cam if the tuning after my intake install still doesn't take care of most of the surging.

Tuning a T-Rex for no surge is a piece of cake with stock intake and TB. Gets a lot more challenging with a 90-102mm TB. Your tuner will really need to know what he's doing to get it right. Idle tuning with a 102mm TB and a T-Rex is a fine art.
