Default Cam is in!

I like it a lot! It hunted for idle for a few seconds...it also died a few times when I took it around the neighborhood. I turned the idle screw a little bit and it seemed to help. After running for a half hour, it idled and drove much better...but still surged a little pulling it into the garage.

In all, I am very happy. I like the sound and I like the shake the car has now. It drives really nice with the 3500 stall in there too...nearly stock!

Thanks again Blacker!

I cant tell you how much I like the sound, shake, and drivability of my car now! I still have about 140 miles to go before I can really get into it....I thought it wouldnt idle and would be a bitch to drive, but it is just what I was looking for. I would recommend this cam to anyone with an A4...especially if you have a little higher stall. The car is 10x more fun to drive now.

Is it right that I just put in a TR224 and a 3500 sall, and I already want a 230/230 and a 4400 stall? LOL...j/k My car might still be able to pull off the sleeper image...maybe! Cant wait for headers and a tune!

Tripp: I have the Manley spring and titanium retainer kit from Scoggin Dickey... www.sdpc2000.com ...it cost $180.

PendragonZ: Nope, my car is still untuned and it might have to stay that way for a while. It drives good enough for me to get by...it's not much of a headache even with the idle still at about 650.

No sound clips...I dont think I will be able to get any because I am pretty computer-illiterate...lol

If you know what you are listening to, you will be able to tell it's cammed. It has a slight rumble on idle...but what gives it away is how the car shakes. With the door open, you can watch it vibrate up and down...when you are stopped at a light, the car shakes just enough to let you know something is in there. I like it a lot, especially since it drives so nice. My car still has the stock manifolds and y-pipe, so maybe the exhaust tone would be louder after LTs and a tune...we'll see about that later...

The Manley package is nice stuff. I plan to take mine off after 15K miles and check the pressures.

u expecting them to go past 15k? that is gonna suck having to check my springs every 15k miles since i drive so much. i was thinking every 30k.

I want to check them at 15K...wether I have to replace them or not, I dunno. My lift is only .563" so it's not tough on springs. If the pressures are fine, I'll keep 'em!

They are already broken in. I had them with my first cam for about 5K miles. Just take it easy for the first few heat cycles...ie, let everything get good and hot and dont rev too high...then let them cool off completely, repeat for the first few hundred miles.

Also, after they have been heat cycled, try to keep from revving high until the oil is up to temp...less chance of breaking a coil that way....that goes for all springs.

My old cam was a .580" lift, so this one is a little easier on them.

That "idle screw" isn't really an idle screw.
