Default What cam for an A4 DD?

What cam do you all think would be a good strong setup but also daily driver friendly? I've looked into several different ones but can't decide. I've always liked the 228r and ms3. I'm worried that if I go small that I'd end up regretting it. Just want to get some more options from you guys so I can research some more..

I'll be driving the car daily at first and I usually do 30-40 rolls and digs. When it sees the track I'll be running at an 1/8 mile.. I want a rough idle .. And car has 3.23 at this time. 99 with 107k miles and stock except for lid and k&n filter. I already have an ls6 intake and longtubes with an x that'll have series 10s dumped at axle waiting to go on. Will most likely try to get some 243 heads before cam swap.

I have an MS3... A stall is a must, though. Otherwise you'll be standing on your brake pedal at stop lights.

EDIT: also, on the dumps... I hope you like loud. I have dumps on my car, and it is LOUD... As in, set off car alarms across a parking lot loud. Don't get me wrong, I love it, and it sounds NASTY... But it draws a lot of attention, and not all of it's good. Make sure you know what you're getting into.

So you would reccomend the ms3? What size stall would be good for that cam? 3600-4000?

As for the loudness, yeah I think I'd like that set up. If it turns out to be too loud I'll just run it outback with a different muffler and go the cutout route I suppose. there's so many rednecks around here with loud *** trucks I doubt I'll get many looks.. I think everyone is use to it haha

Ms3 is a pretty good size cam for the street, I'd look at a 4,000 yank converter to put behind it as well as a tranny cooler....you will be happy if you don't mind it bring slightly bitchy at times lol. I ran a 4,000 stall with a 238/242 in my GTO and loved daily driving it 50+ miles a day

IMO, I'd give the Torquer V2(111lsa) consideration also.

Actually you did ask for a GREAT dd cam, so here you go: 224(xfi .609").226(lxl .605") 110lsa +3, this cam would be a blast to dd, and it would have a noticable cam sound (5*overlap). It would also work great with a Stall in the 3200-3600 range.

I started out with a TV2 and a set of TSP Stage 1 heads. Threw in a Vigalante 3200 convertor and a set of 3.73 thick gears and had fun till I got the dreaded gotta go faster bug.

I must break the 400rw mark. How much power would a tv2 make?

In an a4 dont be too worried about dyno #s but rather how it drives. if i had to guess (dont take my word) the v2 should put down 375+ w/ full bolt ons. most will agree that a 32-3600 stall would be ideal, but some dd higher stalls than that.

I'm currently running a 224/224 .581/.581 114 with some port/polish/milled 5.3 heads & LS6 intake. I personally feel this is about to close to a perfect daily driver as it can get IMO anyway. I got a nice increase from the entire combo. And I'm getting ready to swap to a A4 this winter & plan on tossing in either a 3200 or a 3600 stall. As it is now I love the power range it has & its got plenty down low, you dont have to be in higher RPM's with this combo.

And remember given the exact same combo with gears/stall & auto your always gonna dyno lower than a stick car but i'd almost guarentee you'll also turn a faster ET at the track too.

Im worried that if I chose less than a 228r I'll want more. Would I have to upgrade from a stock size lid/tb and ls6 intake if I decided to go the ms3/4k stall route?

There really are a lot of good cam choices out there. I'd recommend talking to a number of shops, tell them your goals, mods, etc and they'll guide you in the right direction.

imo the 228r is ideal...has more lowend power and torque whereas the v2 has it higher up in the rpm band. get the ls6 intake no matter what cam you go with because itll help it breathe better.

Its tough to get 400rwh from just a cam in an DD auto. You better add a set of heads

funny that he should mention this... I have a yank 4000 ss and a big *** tranny cooler.

its a little finnicky on cold starts, but it sounds F****ING MEAN, and it runs like a scalded dog. I can still torque around down in od, too... but I have 410's. your nog will suffer a bit city, but interstate is still good as long as your tuner softens up the misfire table enough for the convertor to lock up.
