Default Getting heads milled, mill intake side too?

Advice needed... finally starting on my build and have a set of afr 205's i'm looking to get milled to 60cc. local machine shop said i need to mill the intake side too so i don't have any intake fitment issues. makes sense right?

They want $280 to clean them, remove valves/springs, mill the 4 sides and reassemble. sounds a little steep. what do you guys think?

I have read quite a few threads with people who milled .030+ and had no intake fitment problems. I'm sure its nice to do, but not mandatory.

It looks like the total milling will be .039 though. i bought them used and they have already been shaved before. stamped on the surface in the corner is:
"015 64cc". from afr they are 66.. i thought .006=1cc? does that mean they are really 63.5 cc?

Don't quote me on this but I think the decks on the AFR heads have slightly more material than stock (like ~.007ish) meaning you can take out 1cc and that would put you at the same level as a GM casting. However, you won't run into fitment issues with the intake until you go past .060.

sounds like a reasonable price, if your heads are milled the intake wont line up properly and will need to be milled or fab up spacers like chrs1313 did

I cut the intake side on some I setup for under 60cc. Helps out alot for the intake and porting fitting alot better. Ive done some setups in the past not milling the intake face and you have to mess with the bolt/alinement sleeve on the intake, and thats not checking into the port alinment deal.
And seen cars the intake kinds pops out removing it. Makes you wonder how the intake install went

Steep? $280 is really cheap for all that. Thats a good race shop would get for just for the machine work. $75/hr 3.5hrs. When you've done it a few times, and can set the head in you fixture to cut both side. Just tiliting it back, the deck centered, and up to the VC rail shoulder can be tricky on some machines, Thats alot of chips its gona cut, a lot of cutting times, and cleanup.
And there cleaning the heads too, thats a great price.
