mpg after upgrade
has anyone notice a change in mpg after head, cam and stall changes in their cars.
i am looking at swapping to fuel injection with my setup and go with a 4l60e with 3000 stall. i am hoping to get to the 20-25 mpg with my setup.
setup is shaved and ported 243s, comp 273xer cam and stock bottom end 6.0.

More power = more fuel used, There is no free power. That's why injectors must be larger for more power when you reach the limit of the stock injectors. MPG WILL go down when you put out more HP.

My car in street trim weighs 3800+lbs and has the aero of a brick but gets 19-20 MPG with all 4 windows down driving through the hills with lots of small towns and traffic which make it hard to keep the converter locked. On open flat road it could easily get another mpg or 2.

I put a baby cam 222/226 in my m6 C5 over the winter. Overall tank MPG is virtually unchanged, around 22. However on the 40-mile highway trip to work, if I keep it on cruise at 65, I average 31mpg. Each romp on the throttle subtracts 1 to 2 mpg on that same 40 mile trip. The stock cam would yield very similar results.
Assuming its tuned properly, your MPG shouldn't suffer too much.

My H/C package didnt drop my MPG one bit, and I gained an easy 100hp over stock. As thunderstruck said, its all about efficiency. 11.2:1 CR and a 228/232 cam. I have driven a few 16+hr trips and typically average ~28mpg on the highway. Around town (to work and back) I am still getting ~17mpg... I could easily get more, but whats the point of all this power if your not going to use it!

yea i cruise between 70-75mph on the highway in 6th, and the MPG is just about the same, about 1-2 different. before i was getting average 28 on the freeway with bolt-ons and a tune. i do have a 6-speed and i still have the 3.42 gears (for now, till funds dictate a 9") back there. but the advertised operating range of my cam is 1900-6600.

Depends on the setup. A friends z28 with cam and full bolt ons with 3.73s and 26" tire and 3200 stall gets 25mpg with the a/c on average from SE OK to Memphis.
As far as stalled auto effect on highway mileage it will stay roughly the same. Once locked it works like stock but it's also lighter. Around town mileage will suffer some due to the increased revs but it wasn't enough for me to really be amazed by. If you are cruising at a high enough speed with enough engine load to keep it locked up, mileage will stay the same as stock with small possibility of improving due to less rotating mass.
