Default Mis-shift leads to more work. Head Removal Help

Well..
This Sat at the track I went 1-2-3 and back to 2... I thought that I had killed my car. Now it has a very noticable tick. I rev it a little and the tick stops, but once the engine gets back to idle the tick comes back.

I was already in the process of getting things together for my cam install. I guess that I'm gonna have to pull the heads also. So that I can check to make sure that I didn't bend any of the valves.. I was planning to change the pushrods w/ TR Hardened ones. I'm pretty sure that I may have bent them.

Does anyone have a link to a head removal how-to? Or is this something that should be done by a professional?

I would check out the write-up on www.ls1howto.com

Here is the direct link to the heads/cam swap that will help you in taking the heads off:

GL - hope it's just a PR and not a valve.

Just remember that if a pushrod doesn't bend, something else will.

Pushrods are cheap.

Since your in Hawaii, you are in HI right? Might want to get ahold of Joe (mustang), he has some friends I hear that do cam swaps and other stuff like that. One might even have a good cam /heads combo for you to pick up cheap! gee how'd I know.
And I just told Joe the same thing, the stock pussrods are your savior, if not the lifters would **** and mayeb the valves!

You'll collapse a lifter or take out a valve stem. Either is bad, valve stem can be terrible.

Alright.. These are my symptoms:

Car doesn't idle rough or anything. Drives normally also. There is just slight ticking sound that seems to be coming from the drivers side right at the front of the door. It also seems to coming from the lower portion of the engine near the headers...

any guesses?

Yes, either a bent pussrod, not uncommon for the description or an exhaust leak. I got a set of stockers at home. Joe knows the guys that can get them for you-free! Just let me know on here and I will call them as I am sitting in NY on leave before I deploy.

Just remove the coils, remove the valve covers, remove rockers.

remove each pushrod one at a time. After removing the pushrod, roll it across a piece of glass or a mirror. If anything rolls oddly, it is bent.

Check all of the pushrods and replace any that are bent.

Do them one at a time so you can keep track of what valve and cylinder the pushrod came from. If a cylinder has a bent pushrod, visually inspect rocker, valve stem, and everything else you can see.

If you find no damage other than the pushrod, reassemble and go on your way.

What's up.. Cat

I work with Joe.. I believe he was posting this on insayne stangs too..

I already have the parts for my cam install.

TR230/224 .575/.563 111LSA
TR Hardened Rods..
Comp Cam 918 Springs
Comp Cam TIT Retainers..

I was just wondering if I should remove the heads and check the lifters while I do my cam install.

He also doesn't believe that I'll put down a 12.9 when my ET Drags get here.

Like I told him, keep missing the shifts, you wont. Just do yourself a favor, pull the above directions onto a printer, and follow them, see which ones are bent. If they arent any, then you can spend the extra $$$ for the lifters/valves. Just to easy. Wont cost any $, you pull covers, loosen rockers, pull Pussrods, roll on glass and replace as needed. Tighten back down and go.

Alright.. I'll just have Joe contact Pat for me, and see when would be a good time for him to do that. What's this new addition that you're speaking of?
