I'd get some clearer pics of the "nicks" and "marks" he mentions in the info

Right now that auction is up to $425 with shipping with almost 4 days left. That price will likely go up some more with that much time left. I wouldn't pay more than $400 for a set of stock LS6 heads. If you get a set of LS6 heads, either 243 or 799's (same thing), I would consider sending them out for CNC porting. Either that or go the cheaper route and have them milled a little and a good valve job. It all depends what your goals and budget are.

LS6 heads w/243 stampings , arent exactly the SAME as regular stamped 243's, LS6 heads came with lighter sodium filled exhaust valves, Installed on ZO6's, id have to do some research, or OP u could to see if the CTSV's came with LS6 heads or regular 243's like the GTO's, v. what a ZO6 had on them..
EDIT! , took a look at the photo's in the OP, and those have the same side castings as LS6 heads, which were installed on ZO6's as well..the depending how u look at them, the upside down "v" in the exhaust side..my research (this was a while ago) showed 2 plants that made 243 heads, standard 243's, and the LS6 243's..research i did showed the outside casting difference, as how I ended up with mine.

The auction has gotten a little higher than im willing to pay for them. If I was to get a set of ls6 heads I already planned on having some work done to them, could be a money pit. I could maybe save some money and have my stock ls1 heads ported and polished, would that be worth the trouble?

243 heads are 400-500 stock, more$ if they are the "ls6" version with the better valves..

but like the above guy mentioned, getting a clean up mill on them and bead blasting and then atleast a 5 angle valve job will run 400-500 dollars as well..

So after 800 estimate you will have some good heads, but for a few hundred more you could get a set already ported and ready to bolt on...

Something to think about since basically when you buy used heads, alot of the times your just buying the core. they still need to be finished

my opinion so just do as much research as possible and form your own conclusion

Aside from the valves on a Z06, they are identical. I don't care what the outside of the casting looks like, because internally (where is counts) is all the same on any 243 or 799 head.

a little misinformation here.

01 LS6 heads from a 2001 Z06 are 243s but do not have the different valves. only 2002-2004 Z06 LS6's had the lightweight valves. 243 and 799 heads flow the same though. There are cheaper 243/799 heads on ebay. I picked up a set for 380 shipped that look perfect. I am having Lashway go over them anyway but still they are straight and would probably bolt right on if I desired.

will any of the 243/799 be good for 400 HP? my goal is 400 to the wheels, i have 806 heads though im in the marker for some better heads but not too overpriced.

Yep, my car makes 385 to the wheels with 243 heads, LS6 cam and intake.

A decent cam would easily put it at 430 to the wheels.

Those are being advertised as new heads. Should be ready to bolt on. You will not find that for $380. There is a difference between the 243s and 799s in the casting process and 243s are better flowing in stock trim.

Those heads will easily sell for $650-$750!

If the plan is to have them worked, cnc, valve job...I would buy good cores for alot less money

for what youre paying for a "243" stamp, you can get a set of 317s which flow almost the same but have a bigger combustion chamber and mill them .040 with some porting and a VJ...

I was helping in identifying the better of the two "243" heads, and the valves inside the LS6 are better.
