Default Thicker oil help oil consumption?

If the rings are getting worn out, would switching to 10w-30 or 10w-40 help a little or is it a bad idea?

Common practice to run thicker oil on motor with loose ring gaps but in your case, you need to fix it. Period.

10W-30 can be THINNER than 5w-30 at operating temps.

Diesel rated oils often have higher flash points and cope with heat better, most are API rated for gas engines. If you really want to try knowing it is just an attempt at a bandaid maybe try one of the diesel oils.

yeah nevermind I found my problem anyways.....the header tube rubbed a hole in the dipstick tube which put oil on the header and made it smoke at high rpms

Sure am glad it wasn't what I though it was
