Default 853 vs 243 heads

Gonna have to change lifters soon and may catch a break on getting a set of 243 heads for cheap also. Anyone know if there's a power difference between the 2?

there a huge difference right off the bat if compared stock to stock. Your prob looking at 20hp with the 243's over the 853s the way they sit. I hope if your doing all that work that a cam is in the mix too.

if the heads are coming off get a nice cam pkg to compliment the heads.a tsp 224r will put you in the 11s.

lol car already has an aftermarket cam in it. 234/238 .595 .602 on a 112 Car has the MPH for 11s but the 2.73s are holding it back.

lol Didn't know the exact power number, maybe I asked the question wrong, always seen dyno sheets with 243 heads posting good numbers but rarely see the 853s, maybe there's a reason behind it........

Yes 853s are the worst head out of all the stockers,243s will be a nice upgrade, but i would take some worked 853s over stock 243s any day, i would at least send them out for a lil port work, it will be well worth the extra cash, or if your on a budget 243s are still going to make a nice gain

Yea, because the 853 heads are the worst flowing out of the bunch. The 243 head discussion comes up everyday. One day as a member on this forum and you will see a dozen post on 243 heads.

For the 346 Ci Ls1/Ls6, the 243s are the best stock casting available.

Was never in the market for heads since I wanted to build up the trans first. But I can't pass on this deal for these heads. Like I said before, I always saw them as posted with dyno numbers but was never able to compare them to the 853 heads. And I never bothered since I wasn't going to change the heads anytime soon. But now.......

Did you perform the 853 heads work yourself? I basically have the same setup as you.

Cam, CNC port heads, pushrods, new springs, seals, locks and retainers. It was right around $2000. I know there is some power left on the table with my headers and intake but i wasnt looking for all out power, its a street car right now.
