Default TR224 or 230?

Sure it has been asked before but for an ls1 with a fully cnc ported and polished with 205 and 157 valves in it would i make a little more power with a TR 230 over the current 224 that is in it? Wanting around 400rwhp but this is in a truck with a 2600 stall.

What about idle lope.... which one has more?

What do you ls1 guys think?

on a ls1 the 230 donest have much over the 224. mabe 15whp at most. The tr230 will have a rough idle with the low LSA. you can make a tr224 on a 112 lope pretty good too

Yes my 224 is on a 112lsa wasn't sure if there was a better cam available for it or not. Someone said the 224 won't make power up to 6800 and that is where I am wanting to spin it too due to the head work I have had done.

well on a ls1, tr230 can make power over 6800 to 7k+.

i guess that would be a good cam to look at if you choose to spin it that high

I would look at something in the 226-228 range. Call allen at FMS he will help you out. The tr230 isnt talked about too much and the people that get one seem to swap to something else. Like jrp said, with you stall i would go a tad smaller

Is it worth swithching from the 224 that is in it to a a 226 or 8? The motor isn't in yet it is just sitting in the engine stand and I am swapping some parts off my 5.3 onto it. So if there is some power to be had and maybe some Lopety lope to have then I wanna know.

Also should I change out the stock timing chain and put good rod bolts (ARP) in if I am going to spin it to 6800?

Thanks

I have had both cams with stock heads. Here is a dyno comparing the TR 224/224 114, 227/224 114, and the 230/224 114:

http://members.***.net/kcr19/TRcam_comparison.jpg

There was no loss in low-end power with the TR230 over the 224. The only gains were in the upper-rpms. The 230 did have a slightly harsher idle, but still drove great in town and on the highway.

Nice comparison. By those graphs it looks like the TR224 is as big as you would want to go on a stock head. You don't really gain much from moving up to a TR230...10HP way up top, I don't know if that is worth the effort of a cam swap on a stock head. You'ld see bigger gains from changing heads first and then moving into a TR230 cam.

..HOWEVER...I see you have some pretty nice heads. The TR230 should work well with the heads (this is an assumption from not seeing the flow numbers), with the TR230 and your upgraded heads you may see the 400 hp mark through your A4. I agree with the above statements that your converter may be small.
