unusual cylinder wall color 5.3L
forgive my ignorance, as I am still learning. (I like to learn by doing..)
this is my 2nd LSx teardown in the last 2 years. My last one was an LQ4.
I don't really understand what I'm seeing here?
This motor has 279k miles on it. I was told it was "running good" when the yard pulled it.
I plan to have it rebuilt, but I want to make sure my block/rotating assembly is good.

Looks normal for an engine with that type of mileage on it. It looks a little like the oil wasn't changed enough though. You may need to have the crank turned down.

Most certainly cheap fuel.
Glad it's not something to be concerned about!
My first look at it, it seemed green to me and I thought.. wth.. coolant leak? but coolant on these is normally red (and seemed to be when I dropped the water pump) so that kinda ruled that out.
No problem with having the crank turned, block honed, tanked, I plan to have a shop do this anyway.
