Have you tried priming the oil system by spinning the oil pump with a long rod and a drill? The priming rod of course has to have a flattened end that engages the slot in the oil pump itself. This would at least eliminate one possible trouble spot. Like maybe the cam isn't actually turning the pump for some reason. Good luck.

The oilpump on the LS1 is mounted on the end of the crankshaft.
The only way to turn the pump is to crank the engine.

Did you ever figure out what happened to the engine? I am having a similar issue with a LS6. Thanks

I'll paypal you $$ for a video of you demonstrating this procedure on an LS engine with factory-type oil pump.

Its a shot in the dark, but you might try taking the oil pump apart and putting some emgine assembly lube all over the internals of the pump. It will help create a suction and get oil to the pump.. just a thought..

I apologize for not replying earlier, but I've been busy with opening my shop. I did solve the oil pressure issue. I found that the installer of the cam/oil pump/timing chain left a couple paper towels in the oil pan causing it to be sucked up by the pickup tube. Dropped the oil pan removed the paper towel and solved the problem.
