Lifter tray question
Lifter tray question Im working on my head swap, and I just installed the new lifter trays along with the LS7 lifters. Obviously the new trays or significantly stiffer than the ones I just removed and are currently holding the lifters off the cam lobes. I just want to verify that with the #1 piston at TDC on the compression stroke, I need to use the pushrods to push the lifters back down onto the cam lobes prior to measuring for the new pushrods?

i think its impossible to measure pushrod length unless the lifters are on the cam. only way to measure push rod length is to have all the valve train were its gonna be when the engine will be running as far as the lifter on the cam, pushrod on the lifter, rock arm on the pushrod ect. hope this helps.
They will stay up any time you move the motor so as you take measurements you need to be aware of the lifter position and the possibility it is not touching the cam. I like to rotate the motor and then when the piston is up push the lifter to hear it touch the cam so I am positive I know its position.
