Default Cheap HP for ls1 build

I just currently purchased my first ls1 car. Im ripping everything out of it to build my 92 camaro. The ls1 that i got has a flat lobe on the cam so i am going to have to buy a new cam anyway. I have a 3600 yank stall and 3;73 gears. What is the best cam, springs, rockers to get to make the most power on a budget... $1500???

Stupid broad question. Do some research and power can easily be had for 1500 doing your own labor. One thing is that you do not need to replace rockers, but the trunnion upgrade is a good idea.

Cheapest cam and springs for good power would be the ASA or Ls1 Hot Cam and Ls6 springs. Then take your heads and get a good valve job and do your own assembly work. You can hit the budget of $1500 easy.

I am going to have to replace the rockers. How can i make this not so "broad"... its going to be naturally aspirated on 91 octane where i am at and driven mostly on weekends. I was thinking about the ms4 cam? I currently have a comp thumper series cam in my sbc and it sounds great. I would like something similar in my ls1.

If you want to keep the 3,600 stall I'd look at a smaller cam than the ms4...maybe low to mid 230's at the most....I wouldn't run the ms4 with anything lower than a 4,000 stall.

When it comes to the rockers, if you have to replace them look around for a good desk on stock ones, or even better upgraded stock rockers

look at a Texas Speed or thunder racing cam pkg .you can reuse your stock rockers, but consider a comp cam trunnion bearing upgrade.maybe get a new oil pump, lifters ,and a timing chain also.you can get a mail order tune from frost for $150.

That being said, there are soooo many options and opinions on what to do, your best bet is to A) research it on this site since its been asked and covered a half billion times and choose one 2) call a sponsor on the right here and ask them.

Why is the ms4 to big for a 3600? Also does it matter that the stall is a lock-up? Not only am i wanting more power but i just want the nice lopey sound at idle too.

MS4 may work with a 3600, but I have read a few recommendations to have around a 4000 with that cam. Also, I would think that you would want a lock-up converter, especially if you will be using it as a street car.

Yeah i am definitely going to keep doing my research. Just to do the gas tank, and all the interior should take a decent amount of time for me to do by myself. Is there any one on here around wichita ks that might wanna come help sometime and drink some beer?

what are you doing to the gas tank? changing the fuel pump?

IMO i think a Ms4 is too big of a cam to enjoy if you drive it everyday in the city like i do...

If your looking for a max effort cam then yes a ms4 might work, but a big stall will help you get into that cam's powerband the proper way..

Im going to hopefully just swap out gas tanks and leave the fuel pump and everything in there, if not then yeah im going to just swap the fuel pump and sending unit.
