Another thread to pick a cam...
Hopefully by then my mods will be:
Kooks 1 3/4" headers
True Dual exhaust
Volant Intake
BBK SSI Intake (this is a big MAYBE)
My car is a 2000 WS6 M6 with 60k on it.
I will be DDing it for the most part, and doing some interstate driving also.
I need it to be reliable, and have somewhat decent gas mileage. I'm ok with 15/23 or so.
As far as power goals, I would really like to break 450 hp, but I don't see it happeneing with those mods. So for a start, at least 400. I was thinking about the 228r, but I really wanted to get some ideas from other people/vendors.
With the cam install, I've kinda convinced myself to go ahead and do rockers, and of course the valve springs. Do these things allow me to widen my selection of cams?
Also, I have no interest in nitrous or FI (for at least the next couple years).
Possibilities:
Torquer V2
228R
MS3
what else?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

Dont get caught up with all this custom spec cam bandwagon you see on here. Very easy to hit 400rwhp with a stock heads and the 228 cam. Your best bet, is to go on the dyno section and look up results with cams that are netting 400rwhp..
On the rockers though, is that something really worth upgrading while I'm in there? And what kind of power increase (or reliability increase?) will they give?

IMO, with a DD a TQv2 w/112lsa is as large as I'd recommend, I'd also get either 3.90 or 4.11 gears.
Further more if you don't have the Volant Intake, and kooks1-3/4" headers yet then STOP; make some changes. Get a SLP lid & SSRA, and kooks 1-7/8" headers instead.

As far as the headers go... I'm not getting caught up with the whole 1 3/4 vs 1 7/8 argument. I got a really good deal on the headers, and I'm really not gonna be racing a ton so it's not a huge deal to me.
My goal is just to have a little fun, talk a little ****, then be able to back it up. *shrug*
Thanks on that info about the accelerated wear though. My heads will stay stock for now, and so will my gears.
As far as cam goes, you would be best suited for something like a 224/228 on a 110 LSA. Gobs of torque and useable power, but will still pull hard up till about 6,300 rpms. With the right heads and intake, you'll reach or eclipse 450rwhp and have all the under the curve power to beat the **** out of any ******* running a donkey dick cam that is useless as **** in the lower RPM band.

And on the cam, that's pretty similar to what I was thinking with the 228R. What would be the big difference between the two? I know I won't be able to afford new heads this year, but I'm hoping I can at least do intake and cam. I'm just like everyone else, I have an extensive list of things I'd like to upgrade, but no money to do it with. One step at a time... Lol

And thanks for the info on the lids and stuff.
If I find a ls6 intake for 250 or so (which would be a pretty good deal) I'll probably grab it. I'm assuming everything from my ls1 would swap right over and I'd just need gaskets. Am I correct?

Maybe I drank the purple koolaid, but EPS cam lobes have a different profile that is easier on valvetrain. I don't know of any new issues starting at 600+ lift, just make sure you have springs rated for that lift and that there is plenty of PTV clearance (though this is only barely affected by lift). Good luck with your choice!
I've heard great things about every cam setup. I like the Ed Curtis designs, they seem to be a step above many other manufacturers. They are a little on the high side but by the time comes to pull the trigger, I don't want that to be holding me back anyway.
