Default Hotcam plus 918s Big NONO???

I was told that the comp 918s (which support up to .600 of lift) are to much spring pressure for the hotcam which only needs a .525 lift spring. Is this TRUE? Im wanting to get the hotcam and 918s, so later in the future I can just get a bigger cam say...a .585 lift cam and not have to swap the springs again. Any info helps

I was wondering the same thing, but for the stock cam. I was gonna swap some 918's on soon, so when it comes time for the cam install i can get it done fast since i'll have to do it at the hobby shop on base. Hell, in the mean time if i miss it could keep me from floating the valves into the pistons. I don't see any downside to this since the 918's won't collapse the stock lifters or anything,or am i missing something?

Comp 918s will work fine with the Hotcam and the stock cam.

Thats a good question! This is what I say. If your gonna run 918 with your stock cam until later I dont think it would be very very bad but you may lose some horse in the meantime because of the increased seat pressure creating more friction and valvetrain noise. I would also look into binding up the valves or the springs, too much seat pressure and not an agressive enough cam the valves may not open and bind up. Youll know when you hear it ! If it was me I would wait for the cam no reason upgrading springs when you aint got no cam, just do it all at once and most shops give package discounts. Last but no least when all else fails and you want the facts........call the manufacturer. GOOD LUCK

There is absolutely no problems using the Comp 918 valvesprings with the Hotcam. I personally would use them over the '01 LS6 valvesprings that are supplied in the kit.

Jason is absolutely correct they will work no problems! I had gotten my information mixed up I was mixing up spring bind and spring surge. Sorry for the miscommunication they will work absolutely fine.

"I would also look into binding up the valves or the springs, too much seat pressure and not an agressive enough cam the valves may not open and bind up."

WT???

BTW, the whole idea about stiff springs costing you power is waaaaaaay exagerated in most people's minds. The friction aspect of it is VERY negligable....I mean, that's tinsy tiny folks. You couldn't measure that kind of difference on a chassis dyno. And as for the extra effort needed to compress the spring, well, MOST (and I specify most because someone is undoubtedly going to chime in and try to explain the conservation of energy laws to me) of the energy used in doing so is returned when the spring extends. Point being, the end result is that only a very small amount of energy is wasted with stiffer springs...not enough for the average street/strip enthusiast to be concerned with.
